Paul van Vliet (1935) is a Dutch singer and cabaret artist. In the Netherlands, 'cabaret' is a kind of theatre in which someone, usually in a one man show, tells a story or series of anecdotes (personal or critical about politics/society or just hilarious) with jokes and songs.
In the 1960's Paul van Vliet studied Law at the University of Leiden. During his study he co-founded the Student Cabaret of Leiden and after finishing his study, he co-founded Theatre PePijn in The Hague. This theatre still exists.
Paul van Vliet made over 15 one-man-shows and released over 25 albums. Some of his well-known songs are: 'Thirteen year old girls'/'Meisjes van 13' (1970), 'Savely on the back of father's bike'/'Veilig achterop' (1975) and 'So many thing are still not said'/'Er is nog zoveel niet gezegd' (1982).

In 2002, 67 years old, Paul van Vliet stopped making theatre tours through the country, but performed occasionally in The Hague until 2018. Among many other awards he received an Edison (1971), a Golden Harp (1974) and a Toon Hermans Award (2016).
Paul van Vliet is ambassador of UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund). In 2011 he founded a theatre school in Scheveningen, near The Hague.
The song 'My heart will be orange for good'/'Oranje, de kleur van mijn hart' he wrote on the occasion of the abdication of Queen Beatrix in 2013 (at age 75, she was succeeded by her son King Willem-Alexander). Van Vliet and princess Beatrix met in Leiden, during their Law Studies and they remained friends over the years. Orange is the royal colour in the Netherlands, because Beatrix and King Willem-Alexander are from the house of Orange-Nassau.
Other songs about the Royal Family are: 'Dear Queen Beatrix' (2013); 'So beautiful' (2013); and 'You are a king' (2013).
