Marco Borsato (1966) is the most successful Dutch singer in the Netherlands. In 1990 he won the talent show The Soundmixshow on television. He released three Italian singles (his father is Italian), but they brought no success. In 1994 he started to sing in Dutch and had a big breakthrough with 'Dreams are deceptive'/'Dromen zijn bedrog' (1994, translated from Italian). His first Dutch album, Marco, won two times a Platinum Album.
Besides translations from mainly Italian songs, he started to work with songwriter, pianist and producer John Ewbank (1968). He wrote most of Borsato's greatest hits, like 'The thruth'/'De Waarheid', 'World without you'/'Wereld zonder jou', 'The destination'/'De bestemming', 'Inside'/'Binnen' en 'Today red is the colour of love'/'Vandaag is rood'.
Together they won 10 Edison Music Awards, 10 TMF Awards and a Golden Harp. Over 20 hits written by Ewbank (also for other artists) reached the number 1 position in the Top 40. The above song 'She'/'Zij' (2002) was in the Top 40 for fifteen weeks and has been voted into the Top 2000 (traditionally broadcasted on the radio the last week of the year) since 2012 (as high as place 511/2000).

Marco Borsato is the best scoring Dutch artist in the Top 40, at number 4 (after Madonna, Rihanna and the Rolling Stones); he is the Dutch singer with most number 1 hits, that is 14 times (right after The Beatles with the record of 16 number 1 hits); and he is also at a number 2 position with hits with the most weeks on number 1 in the Top 40, actually 12 weeks on number 1 for 'Dreams are deceptive'/'Dromen zijn bedrog' (1994).
Han Kooreneef (1963) is a Dutch songwriter. He wrote for artists like Guus Meeuwis, Paul de Leeuw, Karin Bloemen, Liesbeth List, Ruth Jacott, Mathilde Santing and Trijntje Oosterhuis.
Since 1998 Marco Borsato is ambassador for War Child, a non-governmental organisation assisting children in conflict or war situations. He even made a movie about the subject, White light/Wit licht (2008).
