Guus Meeuwis (1972) is a Dutch popsinger and songwriter from the province of Brabant. During his law study he wrote a lovesong for his girlfriend of that time (and wife for fourteen years) Valérie: above song 'It is a night'/'Het is een nacht' (1995). It became a big success and turned out to be the beginning of a very successful career.
Some of his greatest hits include: 'Thunder and lightning'/''t Dondert en 't bliksemt' (1998); 'Brabant' (2003); 'Give me your fears'/'Geef mij je angst' (2005, written by André Hazes); and 'Laughing to tears'/'Tranen gelachen' (2007). He also wrote the number 1 hit 'When I saw you' for the movie All Stars (1997), sung by Antonie Kamerling.
Meeuwis released over 15 records. Since 2005 Guus Meeuwis every year gives a series of concerts in the Philips Football Stadion in Brabant. They are called Great with a soft G/Groots met een zachte G, refering to the typical way the people in Brabant pronounce the letter 'g'.

Because of the celebration of 20 years as a singer, he gave a concert in the Royal Albert Hall in Londen (2015), as first Dutch artist ever.
Guus Meeuwis wrote the above song 'It is a night'/'Het is een nacht' (1995) after a romantic weekend in Antwerp and Gent (Belgium) in 1994. Later that year he won the Student's Songfestival with it.
The song became popular among students and the next year it became a big national number 1 hit (27 weeks in the National Hit Parade Top 40, 7 weeks whereof on number 1). It's still voted every year into the Top 2000 (traditionally broadcasted on the radio the last week of the year), as high as position 248/2000. No less than 13 of Meeuwis's hits have been voted into this list over the years.
The first line of the refrain, 'It is a night, you only see in movies normally', is added to the authorative Van Dale dictionary as established expression in the Dutch language.
