Jan Smit (1985) is a Dutch singer and songwriter from Volendam (province North-Holland). Jan Smit had a hit with the band BZN when he was only 10 years old. A year later his solo single, 'I sing this song just for you'/'Ik zing dit lied voor jou alleen' (1997), was an instant number 1 hit.
In 2005, 20 years old, he had a successful reality-soap 'Simply Jan Smit'/'Gewoon Jan Smit' on television (2005-2008), with the well-known tv-tune 'Friends for lifetime'/'Vrienden voor het leven'.
In the following years he scored many hits, like 'Laura' (2005); 'When the morning has arrived'/'Als de morgen is gekomen' (2006); and 'Cupid'/'Cupido' (2006). His success remaines until this day and he released over 20 records. He is also part of the German 'Schlager'-band Klubbb3. Their first album became Platinum and in 2017 this trio won the German award The best band of the year.

Damaru (1986), stage name of Dino Orpheo Canterburg, is a Surinamese singer and rapper. In 2008 he scored a big number one hit with 'My rose'/'Mi rowsu' (nine weeks on number 1 in Suriname). He wrote this song for his daughter Dinoura. Other well-known hits are 'You are my angel'/'Yu na mi engel' and 'Hey baby'.
After Jan Smit won a bet with dj Giel Beelen (who could raise more money for the charity SOS Children Villages), Giel arranged he could record a duet with Damaru. Jan Smit and Damaru recorded the single 'Garden in my heart'/'Tuintje in mijn hart' (2009) as a duet. It had a number one position in the National Hit Parade Top 40 for three weeks and all the profit was for the charity. The single won a Platinum record and the 100%NL Award as biggest hit of 2009.
Above song is a bilingual song: Dutch is combined with Surinamese. The most famous example is the English-French 'Michelle' by The Beatles ('ma belle, these are words...', 1965). Other bilingual songs on this website include e.g. Dutch-English and Dutch-French.
