Conny Stuart (1913-2010), stage name of Cornelia van Meijgaard, was a Dutch singer, actress and comedian. She performed with the famous cabaret artist Wim Sonneveld. She played leading roles in Dutch musicals like Not honesty but enjoyable is the best policy /Heerlijk duurt het langst (1965); Now off to bed/En nu naar bed (1971); and The perpetrator did it/De dader heeft het gedaan (1983).
These were all, like above song, written by Annie M.G. Schmidt and Harry Bannink. Above song she sang in the Conny Stuart Show in 1966. In 1985, 72 years old, she made a last show, De Stuart Story, in which she sang old songs.
The city The Hague (province South-Holland) is the government residence of the Netherlands. The lyrics mentions several streets and squares in The Hague (like the historic lane Voorhout, shopping street the Poten and the filled up canal the Spui).
