Annie M.G. Schmidt (1911-1995) was one of the most beloved text writers of the Netherlands. She wrote children's books and poetry, poetry for adults, songs, plays and musicals. She is known for her humor and talent for seemingly easy rhyming.
Other songs written by her, also translated and included on this website, are: 'Marjolijne' (1956), 'But most, most of all' (1959), 'What's the weather today in The Hague' (1966), 'My granddad' (1967) and 'In a carriage' (1968).
Harry Bannink (1929-1999) was a Dutch composer and pianist. He wrote the music for over 3000 songs, for many artists (like Wim Sonneveld and Wieteke van Dort), songs and musicals written by Annie M.G. Schmidt, theatre shows, radio- and tv-shows, and radio- and tv-shows for children. He is widely considered the best composer for cabaret, television shows and stage songs.
