Frits Rademacher (1928-2008) was a singer and songwriter from Sittard in the province of Limburg (north of the city Maastricht). He sang in the region language Limburgish. This is an East Low Franconian language ('Oudoostnederfrankisch'). He was one of the most well-known singers in this dialect and is still beloved in Limburg.

In 2018 a monument, a bronze sculpture of the singer with his guitar, is placed on the Church Square in the village where he was born, Sittard.

The above song 'Church bells are chiming'/'Loeënde klokke' (1955) describes the characteristic sound of ringing church bells through cities and villages, as it has been for many centuries (in the Netherlands, but in fact in most of Europe). The bells were and are not only chiming to strike the hours or to call people to church on Sunday morning, but they were also used e.g. to raise the alarm in the case of fire, to warn that the town gates were closing in the evening ('the porridge bell'), to ring cheerfully for a wedding and to toll monotonous (with one low sounding bell) for a funeral.

Johnny Hoes (1917-2011) was a singer, songwriter and producer from Rotterdam. He was known for sing-along songs, carnival hits and 'life songs' ('levensliederen'). He founded a big record publishing company, Telstar (1963).

Some of his biggest hits were 'I wish I had'/'Och, was ik maar' (1961); 'Father, what has become of mother'/'Vader, waar is moeder gebleven' (1962); 'That is the end of it'/'Dat is 't einde' (1965); and 'French fries with mayonnaise'/'Friet met mayonaise' (1974).

His single 'I wish I had stayed home with mother'/'Och, was ik maar bij moeder thuisgebleven' (1961) sold almost half a million copies, making it the best sold single in the Netherlands in the 20th century.
