Eddy Christiani (1918-2016) was a Dutch guitar-player, composer, lyricist and singer. He performed, very successfully, as singer from 1938 until 2010: so for 72 years non stop. He started to play an electric guitar in 1939, as the first person in the Netherlands and probably in the whole of Europe.
He scored over 50 big hits, with songs like 'Sunny Madeira'/'Zonnig Madeira' (1938); anti-war song 'Old tough fellow'/'Ouwe taaie' (1943); 'On the restless waves'/'Op de woelige baren' (1947); 'Mariandel' (1947); 'Song of the sea'/'Lied van de zee' (1949); 'Greetje from the polder'/'Greetje uit de polder' (1950); 'Jump on the back of my bike'/'Spring maar achterop' (1952); and 'Down by the river side'/'Daar bij de waterkant' (1953).

He is known for his cheerful songs, influenced by American music, and his very clear diction. He won many prices, like the first Golden Record in 1952. In 1962 he was proclaimed the most populair guitar-player. He was awarded with a Golden Harp (1965), an Edison Oeuvre Award (2005) and the Radio 5 Oeuvre Award (2007).
The above song 'Well, your name I've forgotten completely'/'Hoe je heette, dat ben ik vergeten' (1954) is a translation of the German song 'Deinen Namen, den hab ich vergessen' (1954), written by Eberhard Storch. The song was again a hit in the Netherlands in 1978, now sung by Corry Konings.
The song was translated by Jacques van Tol (1897-1969). He was the regular lyricist for Louis Davids en Snip & Snap, with famous songs like 'To the bulb fields'/'Naar de bollen' (1936); 'On the Grebbeberg'/'Op de Grebbeberg' (1940); and 'When on the Leidseplein'/'Als op het Leidseplein' (1943).
