Peter Koelewijn (1940) is a Dutch singer, producer and radio-dj. He was the first to introduce rock-and-roll in the Dutch language, with above song. This song, 'Kom van dat dak af' (1959), became an instant hit in both the Netherlands and Belgium.
The text refers to a joke Peter's older brothers used to make as children. On the street, they called 'Hey... héy!' behind someones back. When the passer-by turned around to see what was going on, they looked to the roof tops, as if something was happening there.
Peter Koelewijn wrote the lyrics and music the night before the recording session and the band rehearsed the music in the train towards the studio. The song became a number 1 hit (26 weeks in the National Hit Parade). It has been voted into the Top 2000 (traditionally broadcasted on the radio the last week of the year) thirteen times.

Later hits of Koelewijn are for example 'If I were God'/'Als ik God was' ('KL 204', 1978), about a loved one who died in a plain crash; and 'You become older dad'/'Je wordt ouder papa' (1977, written by Carrack/Anthony). He also wrote 'Straight standing in the wind'/'Rechtop in de wind' (1987) for Marga Bult, who ended 6th with it at the Eurovision Song Contest 1987.
Koelewijn wrote songs and worked as a manager for many other artists, like Ria Valk, Nico Haak ('Foxy Foxtrot'), Willeke Alberti, Bonnie St. Claire, Ronnie Tober ('Splash and paddle'), Rob de Nijs and Saskia & Serge. In 2020 he was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Buma Award.
