Benny Neyman (1951-2008) was a singer from Maastricht (in the province of Limburg). His most well-known hits are: 'Bachelor'/'Vrijgezel' (1981); and 'Why do I still whisper your name'/'Waarom fluister ik je naam nog' (1985). The latter was a number 1 hit in the Top 40. He released over 25 albums. In 1996 he was awarded with a Golden Harp.

Beppie Kraft (1946, short for Barbara Kraft) is also a singer from Maastricht. She only sings in Maastrichtian dialect (a variant of Limburgish dialect). She mostly sings cheerful party songs, carnival songs and sing-along songs. In 2007 she celebrated being on stage for 50 years. In 2017 she gave her last two farewell concerts on Vrijthof Square in Maastricht.

In 2004 Benny Neyman released, as one of his last records, Back to Bluevillage/Trök nao Blouwdörrep. All the songs are in the Limburgish region language. Limburgish or Limburgan (in Dutch: Limburgs) is a Low Frankish dialect in the deep south of the Netherlands, the east of Belgium en the south-west of Germany. The Maastrichtian dialect (like in above song) is a city dialect of the Limburgish.

The melody of above song 'My Maastricht'/'Mie Mestreech' (2004) is 'Home I'll Be' by Canadian country singer Rita MacNeil. Benny Neyman wrote new lyrics on this melody.

Maastricht is the capital of the province Limburg, in the south-east of the Netherlands. The city is situated on both river banks of the river Meuse/Maas. The city is inhabited for more than two thousand years; the Romans already built a fortress and a bridge in this area.

The 13th century Bridge of Saint Servatius/Sint-Servaasbrug is famous as the oldest bridge of the Netherlands. The Vrijthof Square also dates back to the Roman period and is famous for the medieval Church of Saint John, the many cafe terraces and the big concerts and events.
